Last Friday was the end of Al-Bustan Camp. We concluded the program with a great showcase. The campers, with the help of teachers and counselors, showcased what they’ve learned in the two weeks at camp.
The week consisted of helping teachers and campers prepare for the showcase. This included practicing their dance routines, putting the finishing touches on art pieces, preparing storytelling and more. There was a lot going on as everyone was racing to get things done on time for the showcase. In the end, it was all worth it. The kids and everyone else had a blast.
End of Camp Celebration Evening
The evening started with the distribution of the beautifully designed camp T-shirts. Us counselors rushed to get ourselves and the campers dressed in time for the potluck. Parents brought in a variety of delicious food and dessert. I had a blast trying all the different foods and so did the kids.
The showcase was great! The teachers did an amazing job setting it up. It was delightful to see the smiles on the kids’ faces at the end when everyone applauded their good work.
The past two weeks have been so amazing!
I was able to get my younger sister Amy in the program as well — She loved it. Every day on the way home she would rave about how much she loved the art and drumming classes, her new friends, and playing on the playground. She would stop me in the hallway to tell me what she was working on with so much excitement. I am glad that she had fun at camp instead of being bored at home.
During camp, I bonded with the kids and got to learn so much about them along the way. As sad as it was to see camp end, this was an experience that I will take on with me forever.
